Therapeutic approaches I integrate into treatment:

ACT: Focuses on helping you to behave more consistently with your own values. It encourages you to embrace your thoughts and feelings, rather than fight or avoid them, whilst still committing to create positive change. Learning mindfulness skills will help develop the psychological flexibility needed to achieve true happiness.

CBT: Focuses on helping you recognize how thoughts, emotions, and behaviours influence one another. It teaches practical strategies to challenge unhelpful thinking patterns, develop healthier coping skills, and respond to life's challenges more effectively. By building new habits and perspectives, CBT supports lasting emotional and behavioural change.

CAT: Uses creative expression such as art, writing, movement, imagery, or other experiential activities to explore thoughts and emotions that may be difficult to express with words alone. This approach encourages self-awareness, emotional processing, and personal growth while supporting healing, resilience, and meaningful change.

DBT: Teaches you how to manage emotions, accept yourself, and learn how to make sustained behavioral changes, which in turn, also helps improve your relationships with others. Components of DBT are mindfulness, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness and emotional regulation. DBT aligns two opposite concepts: acceptance that your experiences and feelings are valid, whilst striving for positive change.

EFIT: Is a structured, evidence-based approach that helps individuals understand and transform emotional responses shaped by past experiences and attachment patterns. By accessing, processing, and reorganizing core emotional experiences in a safe therapeutic relationship, EFIT strengthens emotional resilience, fosters a more secure sense of self, and supports lasting emotional healing and personal growth.

MI: Explores and resolves ambivalence and mixed feelings so creating positive behavioral change is made possible. The therapist's role is to help you engage in change talk so you can identify what you want to do with your life. The therapist then helps you plan out how your goals can be achieved and implemented. This is done through an empathic, non-judgmental and supportive process.

PS: Positive Psychology is an evidence-based approach that helps individuals identify their strengths, build resilience, and create meaningful goals that support a purposeful and fulfilling life. By fostering optimism, gratitude, hope, and personal growth, it complements the therapeutic process and helps individuals build a more satisfying, engaged, and meaningful life.

(RT): Reconsolidation Therapy: Burnet Method is an evidence-informed approach that helps reduce the emotional intensity associated with traumatic memories and substance cravings. By briefly revisiting a targeted memory while taking a prescribed beta-blocker, the therapy aims to weaken the emotional response linked to the memory. As distress decreases, many individuals experience fewer trauma-related symptoms or cravings, supporting recovery and improved emotional healing.

These patterns can continue to influence how you view yourself, relate to others, and respond to life's challenges. Therapy supports healthier ways of meeting core emotional needs and developing more adaptive ways of coping.

SR: SMART Recovery principles are evidence-based strategies that help individuals strengthen motivation, manage urges, challenge unhelpful thinking patterns, and develop healthier coping skills. By building practical tools for everyday life, they promote greater self-efficacy and support lasting recovery.
